Beware! I applied for a Pier 1 card back in Feb, was approved at the store.

Within a week, someone other than myself was using my line of credit, in a state 3,000 miles away from my home town, without a physical card. After investigating, my local sheriff found out that someone walked into a store in KY, gave the clerk just the # on the account... no card... The clerk says she checked for ID, last 4 of SS, and date of birth.

Did she or didn't she? Sheriff theorizes that someone, more than likely a Pier 1 employee, got a hold of my info and is now using that info and my account #. Nothing more has happened with my credit, leading the sheriff to believe this is an inside job, so to speak. Since all this has happened, I've had to put a freeze on my credit, sign up for Lifelock, and need to monitor my credit activity daily.

So think twice before applying for a card with Pier 1. Trust me, it's not worth the money or the effort I've had to shell out to protect my ID. An added note, on a local, regional and corporate level, Pier 1 has refused to help law enforcement in catching the individual using my information.

They have insisted I pay the fraudulent charges. I've had to take legal actions to deal with this issue alone.

Monetary Loss: $500.

Location: Spokane, Washington

It's been a while since all this happened, and I forgot about this post. Yes, my local sheriff was correct.

After some investigation, the bank that issues credit cards for Pier 1 agreed and found Pier 1 negligent. Pier 1's corporate office, as well as the store in Kentucky, refused to cooperation with the investigation. In turn, the bank reversed all charges. As it turns out, a woman with a name very similar to mine walked into the store less than 48 hours after I put in the application, and charged furniture to my account.

This was done before a physical credit card was even issued from the bank. Store manager did admit the woman gave verbal conformation to the card # and last 4 of my SS# as proof of identity. As far as leaving the application or information out where someone could get ahold of it?

None of it left my possession at any time, which was confirmed by my local sheriff when all evidence was turned over as part of the investigation, and is a cheap shot by a Pier 1 employee to cover their boss's ***. Local, Kentucky law enforcement agreed there was a crime and pursed charged against woman with the similar name and other Pier 1 employees.

Sounds like someone got a hold of your Pier 1 credit card application, which we give back to the customers so they can destroy however they like. Did you shred your application or simply throw it in the trash? Pier 1 never keeps credit card applications.

Okay, first off, I am an employee at Pier one and I assure you an employee could not get onto your account. If you knew anything about our system you would know that if someone doesn't have their card we HAVE to look it up by the last four of their social, zip code, and month and day of birth.

You can't do anything at all without that, you won't even be able to get off the first screen and security will lock you out if you enter incorrect information, so it's not like we can just guess. Your sheriff sounds like a ***. Actually, so do you. This issue you had can probably be traced back to some mistake you made.

Don't blame our store and slander us because your identity got stolen. Someone obviously had to have WAY more of your information than just your account number. You probably left your application sitting somewhere or dropped a summary of your account.

Sounds like your own fault, boo. Don't discourage people from getting our cards because you're not responsible with yours.
